Class 5L

Miss Leigh is the class teacher.

5L have had a very exciting morning working in teams to design and build their own dens as part of our new topic.  They learnt about the impact of earthquakes on communities and how people begin to rebuild their lives following disasters.

5L had a fantastic day at Carlisle Races.  The learnt all about how maths is used in the world of horse racing and about some of the important jobs involved in horse racing. The children had a tour of the jockey’s changing rooms, learnt about the equipment jockey’s wear to protect themselves, worked out how many horses could safely enter the parade ring and calculated the height of some of the jumps.  They also learnt about furlongs, yards, stones and pounds.  In the afternoon, they enjoyed seeing the horses, trainers and jockey’s in the parade ring before watching the first exciting race.

5L had lots of fun using Lego to find equivalent fractions.

As part of our topic on ‘Chocolate’, 5L and 5W were visited by Carl from the ‘Ministry of Chocolate’!  Following are some photographs.
