Class 2S

Miss Stewart is the class teacher and Miss Jackson teaches the class on a Friday afternoon. Mrs Queen also supports the class.

What a busy first half term it has been in class 2S!  At the start of the new school year we worked together to decide on our classroom rules.  We all listened carefully to everyone’s ideas, wrote our favourite ideas down and then shared them with the rest of the class.  We decided as a class which ones were the best.  Everybody signed our rules to show that we would try our very hardest to follow them.

The children have worked in small groups to write about the learning which has been taking place in class this half term.

We have really enjoyed reading the ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl.  We have used adjectives to describe the Enormous Crocodile and we have written our own secret plan and clever trick for him.  We have all worked together to create a display for our work on ‘The Enormous Crocodile’.  Here is a photograph:

Also in English we have been writing our own autobiography and learning to write in the past and present tense.  We have been writing about when we were a baby, toddler, child and what we would like to be when we are an adult.  We really enjoyed it and we have had fun doing this task.  We have been describing ourselves and have used lots of grammar skills for our work too.

In maths we have been learning about number bonds to 10 and 100 and using them in word problems.  When we read ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ we used the greater/lesser than signs and we learned how to measure with a ruler.  We have also been adding and subtracting numbers up to 100 and partitioning 2 digit numbers into tens and ones to help us double them.  Sometimes we have needed to use number bead strings and number squares to help us.

In science we have been learning about exercise and being healthy.  In geography we have been learning about the United Kingdom and using an atlas to label a map.  We now know the four countries which make up the UK.

In art we have been looking at portraits and we have drawn our own self-portrait.  When we did our portraits we used paint and crayons.  We think our self-portraits look a bit like us!  We have also designed our own jigsaw piece for our work in PSHE.

In PE we have been working together on team games and practising our throwing and catching skills.  We enjoy our PE lessons.

For our topic on Africa we invited our parents into a workshop on making African masks. Below are some photographs :-
