Class 2HH

Mrs Holliday is the class teacher.

I would like to welcome all of the Year 2 children who joined 2HH (Heavenly Horses) after, what I hope has been a wonderful summer break for everyone. I am delighted with how quickly they are settling in and very much hope they enjoy 2018-2019 in their new class.

Our topic this term is “Healthy Me” and, wherever appropriate, all curriculum areas will relate to this theme.

We launched our new topic with a Healthy Breakfast and plan to visit Energi in October. We will also be learning about Florence Nightingale (History), Where we live(Geography), Making a Healthy Snack( Food Technology)Portraits(Art) Special People/Harvest(R.E.) and Internet Safety/ World Processing ( Computing).

During Maths sessions we will be learning about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction this half term. In English we are currently reading the Enormous Crocodile and will begin a unit of work on Poetry before half term.

As you may already be aware, individual reading books are sent home with the children. Reading is an integral part of learning in our classroom and I would be most grateful if you could support your child in their reading, by reading daily with/to your child, signing the reading booklet and making any relevant comments .The books will be changed regularly and it is hoped they will become increasingly more independent in this routine throughout the year.

In addition to regular reading at home, the following homework will usually be sent home as follows:

Monday – Spellings to be practised and returned to school by Friday of the same week. The spellings will be included in a weekly dictation.

Friday – homework, to be returned to school no later than the following Wednesday. PE is timetabled for Tuesday (Sports Plus) and Thursday for this term. Therefore, please provide your child with an appropriate PE kit which should be clearly labeled.

Other adults who will be supporting the learning of the children in 2HH, at various times throughout the week are Miss Jackson (HLTA) aswell as Mrs Race (Teacher) on a Wednesday afternoon.

I very much hope that you continue to be involved in your child’s learning throughout their time in Year 2, encouraging them to take responsibility for managing themselves and completing homework to a good standard, which will help to ensure they become more independent and successful in all aspects of their learning. I can assure you that your help and support will always be welcomed and valued. Finally, I will strive to ensure that your child has a positive and successful year and help them to achieve their full potential.
